The Living Theater was founded in 1947 in New York by Julian Beck and Judith Malina. They shared the goal of bringing theatre into life and life into theatre.
Back in the ‘60s, the Living Theater was perhaps the most radical outfit on the western stage and its anarcho-pacifist troupe offered a communal vision of exploratory performance, creatively and politically engaged, that enthralled and provoked wherever it laid its hat. Decades on they're still at it. Directors Szuszies, who once counted himself among 'The Living”, and Kaper pay generous homage to the company, not only for its historic path-breaking, but also for its ongoing commitment to social, cultural and political change. A personal reflection perhaps, but also a road log of their continuous touring and a useful archive of past glories, Resist, as much as the troupe it profiles, is a poetico-political tribute to all the people who believe another world is possible.
