This insightful documentary, based on the life of Elisabeth, evokes understanding and compassion for the many hapless victims of the HIV/Aids pandemic.
Living in an informal settlement on the outskirts of Namibia's capital, Windhoek, bereft of husband or family, Elisabeth has to fend for herself and her three small children. Without skills or education and no meaningful work, she is faced with coping not only with abject poverty but also her Aids status. She finds boundless support in Nelao and Wita, who help her not only to establish a sense of self-worth, but also teach her to deal with the issues which prevent her from speaking publicly about her status.
Climbing Kilimandjaro is part of an Aids-related series directed by media students of the Polytech of Namibia and produced by Cecil Moller. |
