'Braaivleis' (Afrikaans = 'Barbeque', eng. n.) is by far the all-time, cross-cultural favorite pastime of all Namibians.
This wacky short-film exposes the social under- and cross-currents as Markus, our host, tries to outdo himself in creating an unforgettable 'braai' for his carefully selected guests: his ex-girlfriend and, alas, her new boyfriend, two sisters, of whom one is a vegetarian, a silent stranger and a winking gay with a crush on Markus. But Beef is not only what lands on the grill. As the evening progresses Markus becomes less of a host and more of a waiter, yet in the end has the last laugh. |
