In the year 2033 every European wants to go to Africa. Instead of war and poverty the continent known for strife and famine has flourished into a world economic power promising prosperity and jobs, the United States of Africa.
Europe on the other hand has become underdeveloped and due to acute economic and political crisis Olivier and Pauline, a qualified young couple, can no longer make a decent living in their country, France.
However when they decide to immigrate to the United States of Africa, they are not granted visas and call on an immigration smuggler instead. Now they face the grim reality of illegal immigration, the difficulty of finding a decent job and the political misuse of immigration per se.
While Africa Paradise largely plays with European xenophobic and racist stereotypes it was never the less inspired by the real, pitiful circumstances of migrants in Europe. |
