| Since the music industry of Namibia has over the past few years shown remarkable growth, the Goethe-Centre/NaDS considers a music video production workshop a useful contribution to the country’s music and art scene. Thus a music clip production workshop, “Namibian Music Videos in the Making”, was hosted in March this year by the Goethe-Centre/NaDS in co-operation with the Wild Cinema Film Festival Trust.
Berlin-based filmmaker, Deborah Schamoni, who has extensive experience in directing international music clips, facilitated the workshop on the invitation of the Goethe Centre/NaDS, together with producer Michaela Bauer of Media Logistics.
Both worked closely together with the “workshop crew”, chosen from professionals in the local film industry or film and media students.
Popular Windhoek-based musical outfit, G3, whose script idea of their song “Life is missing you” was selected for this special production, formed the backbone of the workshop’s content. The brand-new music clip by G3 ‘workshopped’ and produced during this time premieres at the 2008 Wild Cinema Windhoek International Film Festival, to be then distributed world-wide by the network of the Goethe Institut.
It is our hope that this workshop has contributed towards the development of Namibia’s prolific music video industry and future video interpretations of music and songs will stand out aesthetically and be noted for the unique signatures of their directors.
With this in mind, Goethe-Centre/NaDS, one of the principal sponsors of the Wild Cinema Film Festival 2008, wishes filmmakers, partners and partner-institutions a big turn out for this year’s programme.
