Wild Cinema goes abroad

One of the most important tasks for organizers of an international film festival is to visit other international film festivals in order to network, see the latest film releases and meet important players in the industry. The Wild Cinema Windhoek International Film Festival is no exception, screening many films hot off the festival circuit in this year's edition here in Windhoek before they are distributed internationally.

Exciting film outreach program becomes reality:

The Wild Cinema Windhoek International Film Festival as from March this year will support the community cinema programme of Nawa Life Trust (NLT) and will thus help bringing quality entertainment and education to Namibia's regions. Nawa Cinema is an initiative of local NGO NawaLife Trust - a partner organisation of international public health specialists Johns Hopkins University Centre for Communication Programmes - and aims to inform Namibians on HIV/AIDS through the medium of film.

"Namibian Music Videos in the Making"

The Goethe-Centre/NaDS in collaboration with the Wild Cinema Film Festival are facilitating a music video production workshop. The idea is to turn the most promising music video script that was submitted into a music video to be premiered at the Wild Cinema Film Festival 2008.

The workshop is to take place from the 3rd-15th March 2008. This period includes the pre-production phase, the shooting and post-production of the music video.

The workshop facilitators are Deborah Schamoni, a German D.O.P. (Director of Photography) and director, and Michaela Bauer, Namibian Producer and owner of the Production Company Media Logistics in Windhoek. Deborah has done a large spectrum of work especially in commercials and music videos. She has done work for clients like Coca Cola, Cartier and Cafe Gala. Michaela has extensive experience as Production Manager and Producer in the film and television sector both internationally and locally. The two will offer their creative and logistical guidance and advise the crew throughout the duration of the workshop.

The selected script chosen by the panel will suggest the director and the music artist for whom the music video will be produced.

We want to encourage people who work in the film industry and those planning to pursue it (currently are studying film and media) to participate in the workshop as crewmembers. The idea is to exchange skills and knowledge with the professionals. This will hopefully assist in providing students as well as professionals with practical skills of working on music video sets and encourage them to learn or improve in the field of producing quality music videos.

The workshop is designed to encourage teamwork, training and leadership qualities and also assist active filmmakers to master and improve their craft in their departments. With this music video we also hope that we can create a lively music video culture amongst the Namibian filmmakers. A music video crew can consist of 10-15 crewmembers.
